I have 2 generations before MM Shaw:- Capt Thomas Shaw c.1781 who was
"a bad-tempered man and quarrelled with his family and cut them off" according to family history. His father Hicken Shaw c.1750s (married Ann Lanphier or Lanfier )is the earliest ancestor I know. The Shaws were a Scottish Highland family, although Thomas Shaw married Margaret Limond in Ayr, Ayrshire.
(I started with Michael Maxwell Shaw as his name is a little unusual and there are a lot of Shaws)
