Hi my name is Gillian Hobbs and I was born in a small rural sugar cane town of Ingham in far north queensland australia. I reckon i must be related to half the planet!!!
My mother's family came from Northern Italy before world war 2 and cut sugar cane by hand with the Kanakas and when the war was declared they were placed in internment camps until after the war. my mother was born just as the war was finished.
But that's another story!!

My dads family originated in Ingham North Queensland which is a tropical wet area, great for growing sugar cane.

Dads grandparents (on his fathers side) came from England but not sure were. Don't even know there names, but I believe my great grandmother might have been called Alice.

My dad had 2 brothers and a sister and unfortunately only 1 brother is alive now and is a successful architect in Brisbane (the capital of Queensland).

My Fathers name was ALAN ROY HOBBS but was known as Roy because my grandfathers name was also Alan Roy. (apparently Alan Roy is supposed to be carried down the line of the Hobbs family tree).

If anyone has any more info on my family as for example whereabouts in England we would have come from? it would be appreciated.
Thanks
Gillian.
