James Bull from Somerset, England went to Ireland in the early 18th century. A son Robert was born in Thomsatown, Kilkenny, Ireland in 1736. Robert married Dorothy Bassett and had several sons. James born about 1776 married Jennie Steves and had 10 children. He emigrated to Canada about 1818.

Roberts other sons John, Christopher and Robert emigrated to South Carolina and Kentucky. Another son Willam remained in Thomastown to operate the mill. William died in 1850 and his daughter who married a Pilsworht inherited the Grennan Mills. It remains in the family today.

James (1776) settled in Port Hood, Nova Scotia, Canada and one of his sons William born in 1803 in Thomastown married Margaret McNeil and moved to Prince Edward Island in the 1830's. Our family descended from William.

We have copies of some early correspondence between Nova Scotia and Thomastown, and between Kenticky and Thomastown.

We are looking for information about the Bulls from Somerset.
