PERRY Isle of Wight and Australia

One son, George Donald Perry, was a seaman on (it is thought a wool clipper) and we believe he left his ship on one of its stopovers in Adelaide, South Australia as I have been unable to locate an official date of landing. One of George's sons went back to England and for many years captained one of the Isle of Wight ferries and was last known living at Southsea, Hants but that was some years ago. When Queen Victoria died on the Isle of Wight, the Perry carpentry firm supposedly constructed the inner coffin. I possess a piece of the scrap silk from the lining which was in the possession of my grandmother until she died. I am happy to communicate with other researchers and add information to this very brief summary. J |

Jaznjj on 2008-03-17 07:35:41Hello Owen, I'm not sure what our connection is (if any) at this stage but I'll pull the file out over the next couple of days and see if there are any John Alfred Perrys in my records. It is not a familiar name to me. My ancestor probably arrived in South Australia say 1880. I believe earlier generations of my Perry family on the IOW came from Somerset originally. Hello.
My great grandfather John Alfred Perry came from Ventnor, Isle of Wight to New Zealand as ships carpenter in the 1840's. He settled at Castlepoint, New Zealand where his descendents still live to this day. I do not have any record of him from the IOW, only what has been passed down to me by my father and grand father.
