My g-g-grandfather John Burton was born in 1803 in Plumstead near Holy in Norfolk. He and his wife and one brother, Richard, emigrated "on the parish" to Ontario in 1836. John was accompanied by his wife Maria and four children including my g-grandfather William, born in 1833 in Plumstead.

Maria's last name was Daverson (also spelled Davidson and Davison). She was born in 1807. I found a Maria Daverson in Saxthorpe who was the right age but there were some anomalies in the record.

John Burton had a brother Peter who stayed and died in Plumstead. Peter had three daughters one of whom predeceased him and is buried in Plumstead. He also had sisters who remained in England.

John Burton's mother was a Pentney and her father Richard Pentney was born in Plumstead in 1767.

A couple of final things. I found a record from the mid-1500s where a John Burton of Saxthorpe transferred land he owned in Plumstead to his son Peter but no connections.

And, I would be interested in any reference to a major peasant uprising that occurred in Norfolk in 1815.
