Dear Trixie, Welcome to FamilyTreeCircles.
As nowadays most people seem to use the internet whilst tracing their ancestors, it would seem advisable to have pertinent subject headings specific to who you are looking for. Therefore I suggest you edit this journal, and change the subject heading from "Scottish Ancestry" to "Looking for MCMILLAN and GILMOUR from Isle of Arran, Scotland". That way if anyone is googling those surnames, the link to this website and your journal will come up in their search engine list.
It can't hurt to goto the genforums ... there is usually one for each surname (but not always).

The Isle of Arran is between Ayrshire and Kintyre.
RootsChat - Ayrshire Family History - Local History. Register as a new user, free site, then post a lookup request. Sometimes people use these sites to look for living relatives and other users send them a personal contact message so as to avoid private details being provided on the world wide web.
GenesReunited is also a great website, and their sister site Friends Reunited is great for finding living people.
Good luck,
Editor.
