About CapnDad

Journal by CapnDad

I'd like to introduce myself to other members.

My name is Dale Warren and I live in Springdale, AR. I was born 15 September, 1949 in Palmdale, CA. I grew up in Berryville, AR and lived in Washington State for 30 years.

As I grew up, my paternal grandmother told me stories handed down to her from her paternal grandmother. When my children began having children, I started to write down what I could remember to insure those stories were preserved. I wanted my gift to my descendants to be their family roots.

It was quickly obvious that I had no context for them; they were interesting but I had no names, no places and no dates. Ultimately, it led me to an organized search for my family history. That was 1994.

I took an early retirement from the telephone company in 1999 and spent five months on a motorhome trip. On this trip I traveled through 22 states, collecting genealogical data.

The trip was a deeply spiritual experience for me. The Warren family was split by the Civil War, and in Alabama I met descendants of the brother who fought in the Confederate Cavalry. I stood on land given to Jeremiah Warren for his service in the War of 1812, and walked the Missouri farm his son John H. homesteaded after the Civil War.

As I crossed Arizona on the return to Washington, I was thinking of my hope that my descendants grow up knowing where they came from. Suddenly I was struck by the realization that, in giving them roots, I had given myself roots.

Hello CapnDad,
I notice that you are researching Tackett. I read that Joseph L. Barber married Nancy Tackett. Joseph L. Barber, b: 16 June 1811 Virginia; d: 1880 Owen Co, Kentucky; m: Nancy Tackett 1831 Kentucky. She was the daughter of William Tackett and Edith Cole, (b: 22 July 1812 North Carolina; d: bet. 1880 - 1900).
William Tackett, b: 20 December 1782 Prince William, Virginia; d: 31 May 1852 Bath Co, Kentucky; m: Edith Cole 13 Aug 1803, (born 13 Apr 1785; died 1834 Bath Co, Kentucky).
I don't know if this information is relevant to your research. I am researching Joseph L. Barber and found this on a family tree on another site.

Thank you for your interest. That TACKETT line is not in my direct line, so I have no information on it. However, I am always interested in gathering information on collateral lines. I have often been able to help other researchers with data I've collected, thus repaying the kindness shown me. I will pursue this line and share anything you might be interested in.

Another of my lines is BARBER, ironically. That is a maternal collateral line; my ggrandmother's mother was widowed young and remarried to a man named Alfred Barber in Iowa around 1885. They had a son who I am related to but I have little on this line. Perhaps our family paths have crossed.

Thanks for your response. I have been researching the Barber family for years. Just recently I found the information on the Tackett family.
