Hi knoche,

Dont know what years you are meaning but:

There was a Patrick Moloughney died in 1909 aged 47.

There was a Patrick Moloughney died in 1910 aged 84

There was a Margaret Moloughney died in 1912 aged 72 - she is buried in the Roman Catholic Division of the Waitakere Cemetery in Auckland.
She was a widow - do not know where any others are at this time.

There are 4 Moloughneys who were cremated at Purewa Cemetery in Auckland =

Patrick who died in July 1967 aged 74

Eva Winifred who died Aug 1993 aged 93

and a William John in Aug 1975 and
Gladys in Mar 1977 but those 2 have not got their ages recorded

There was a W. (William?) Moloughney on the IONIC which left London in March 1887 and arrived in Auckland in May 1887.

There was a William John Moloughney who served in WWI as a rifleman for the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, 8th Reinforcements 3rd Battalion, G Company. He was a franer at the time in Raupo, which is north of Auckland - he was injured, not seriously, in December 1917

A Mr Moloughney owned a 'station' (presumably sheep) up in Tikinui which is about 200km north of Auckland, which in 1893 was one of the places used for voters on polling day of the Electoral District of Masden
In October 1899 a Mrs P. (Patrick?) Moloughney went to a fancy dress dance in Tokatoka which is up near Tikinui - dancing commenced at 9pm and went on till daybreak.
She was wearing a black and cardinal costume
In August 1900 P. moloughney held a dance in his hall which was a great success - also not finishing until the early hours - his wife did the catering, having "the best of everything on the table"

In February 1901 in Dannevirke, Manawatu, a Miss Moloughney won a painting of 'Killarney' which was the work of Miss Oakley of Palmerston North

So what this tells us is that the Moloughneys in New Zealand seemed to have lived in the areas from Manawatu (Palmerston North, Dannevirke, Woodville) up to the top of the North Island and where you could concentrate your searches

There is a list of Moloughney here:
MOLOUGHNEY

I see a Patrick Moloughney was married to Helen Lena Stanaway and they had a daughter Phoebe Margaret in 1898 in Wairoa, which is over on the east coast near Gisborne - they had at least 4 children over that way ...

happy hunting

I have many details of the New Zealand Moloughney family. I also have traced back to Ireland about Patrick and Margaret who immigrated to New Zealand in the late 1800's Patrick was a member of the Royal Irish constabulary and married Margaret in Donegal in 1862. This record has been hard to find as civil records were not started until 1864 and Catholic church records were often destroyed, but I keep on trying
If any one would like these details ,I am more than happy to share them

My Moloughney's of Ontario came from Urra in the Parish of Killodiernan, County Tipperary, Barony of Lower Ormond, Province of Munster, a few miles north of Nenagh on the eastern shore of Lough Derg, in Ireland. They sailed to Canada on the Jessie in 1850. Michael Moloughney
Would any of this information match the Moloughney's of New Zealand???

In my family tree I have the aforementioned Patrick MOLOUGHNEY 1860~1909 and wife Helena STANAWAY 1870~1973 and their five children 1.Patrick 1892~1967 (married Eva MOUNTAIN), 2.Laura 1894~1981 (married Joseph AMBURY), 3.William 1896~1975 (married Gladys BLONG), 4.Phoebe 1898~1978 (spinster) and 5.Rita 1901~1972 (spinster).

My husband's ancestors were the STANAWAYs.

MOLOUGHNEY origins are said to be from Co.Tipperary, Ireland, verification required.

Hello again

Patrick's Royal Irish Constabulary records show he came from Tipperary and I also have my Grandmother's baptism certificate from a place called Ramelton Donegal.
Nenagh is not far from where I believe Patrick came from. The trouble is, many records were destroyed in Ireland when churches were burnt etc.
I met a (not verified) cousin John Moloughney in Tipperary who had a lot of records and it seems his ancestors emmigrated to Ontario.

The reason I started looking was that Hannah my mother's mother died at 34 in Pahiatua NZ and my mother did not know anything at all about the family so I was curious to find out where I came fromas my mother was only 1 when this happened.

http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast]PapersPastp website articles and http://www.archway.archives.govt.nz/CallItemAdvancedSearch.do]Archives of New Zealand show a Patrick MOLOUGHNEY, Farmer, Tikinui 1909. Electoral District of Marsden November 1893 has Mr. Moloughney's Station, Tikinui as one of the polling places. And there are records for William Moloughney travelled to New Zealand from London per ship "Ionic" to leave London 24 March 1887.

Moloughney is such and unuasual name, that I believe that we are all related and originated in the same area, in Tipperary, Ireland. A cousin of my mother's (Moloughney is her maiden name) did extensitve research and made trips to Ireland. I received his research after both he and my Mom passed away. It's been 10 years since I've done any research, but am now retired and am interested again. Would you have the address or email for John Moloughney, in Ireland. I can send you all of the research I have on the Moloughney's of Ireland.
Thanks
Judy Pollock

Hi ladies & Gents

I am Michelle goddard - nee - Moloughney - one of the decendants of Patrick and Helena. I have some information and would love to share with anything you might have please, I do not have anything form patrick and margaret backwards.

the 2 Patricks who died - 1909 - patrick (Helena's husband) died in kauri logging accident; 1910 patrick - his father Margeret's husband died.

I understand the Margaret died in 1912 is would be Patrick senior's wife? - will ask mum. - makes sense as Great Gran - Helena - moved the family to Auckland after the Patricks died. i understand she ran a boarding house there.

the Patricks & Helena are buried in the old cemetery in Dargaville.

Patrick who died in July 1967 aged 74 & Eva Winifred who died Aug 1993 aged 93 = husband & wife

William John in Aug 1975 (82) and Gladys in Mar 1977 (80) = husband and wife (my granddad & nana)

these men where sons of Helena & Patrick

where are you ladies - I am in NZ Te Kuiti.

Hi Michelle

thanks for your reply and my email is
knoche@paradise.net.nz
My Great Grandfather was Patrick who was married to Margaret. The Patrick who was married to Helena was his son and my mother's mother Hannah (my grandmother)was his sister. Patrick who was married to Margaret had Hannah, Margaret,Mary .Patrick and William. Unfortunately my own mother did not know much as Hannah died at 36 when my mother was just a baby.
how is that for a confusing issue as the names were repeated often
hope you can work it out. I am wondering about your age to see where you come into the family tree. I am 67
I also have living here in Wanganui a granddaughter of Mary named Rosemary which means that her grandmother and mine were sisters. There is also some Moloughneys in the South island

Look forward to hearing from you
