Rangal Erving was a son of Herman S. Yorks and Clarissa Sophia Bowers; Herman was a veteran of the Civil War, having enlisted in the 143rd Regt in Fallsburgh, NY. He drove ammunition wagons up and down the East Coast during the war. I have copies of his service records.

Herman moved his family from NY after the war, moving first to Illinois, then back to Ohio (West of Toledo) and Southern Michigan, before homesteading east of Kingsley in Grand Traverse County, Michigan.

They had five children. Lyle Richard Yorks (Born ? .. Died ?), Freddie O. Yorks (7/21/47... death 6/28/95), LeeRoy Yorks (Born May 21st, ? .. Died January, 2004), Ellen Marie Yorks (Born ? .. Died ?), and Elwin (Born ? ..).
