Assuming Alexander was not born in Tasmania. There is only one immigrant that fits the time frame, he arrived as a single 23 yr old male assisted immigrant on the ship 'Woodbridge'which left Cork carrying 236 immigrants on the 9 November 1841 arriving on the 8 March 1842 he was a protestant from Middlesex, and could both read and write. he gave his occupation as farm labourer. The Woodbridge docked in Sydney Harbour I know of this voyage because it was the 'Woodbridge' that carried with it the official announcement of the birth of the Prince of Wales to New South Wales. Now assuming this is your Alexander and it's a long shot you should look for marriage records between 1842 and 1845 in Tasmania. Before that I saw an Alexander WHITE who arrived in Tasmania on the schooner 'Eagle' from Perth on the 11 January 1831. There was also an Alexander WHITE who was chief mate of the 'Fortitude' which spent considerable time in Tasmania. This is all guesswork, you have an uphill battle I'm afraid. A marriage certificate between Alexander and Mary would be a good start.

Thank you Janilye,

I will now try to follow this information up further.
I could not beieve that Thomas Henrys father was named Alexander as the name Thomas has been in the family for many generations since.
I thought Alexander may have been Scottish or Irish as my grandfather and his sister do not have a birth certificate but were christened in a catholic church at Nagambie.

Thanks again

The first reference I see of AN Alexander White in Hobart,Tasmania was when he resigned from the police force in 1835 he must have rejoined because he then got dismissed in 1838. In 1836 Alexander White was charged with stealing firewood case dismissed the witness didn't show up. Then 1839 charged with thrashing his wife whilst drunk. He defended himself rather eloquently, he gave a very funny speech. Charge against the thrashing dismissed but fined 5s for being drunk.

Hello Janilyle & Aussie 1947.

I do hope that the policeman is NOT my ancestor, but cannot do much about it if he is.One policeman ancestor in the family is enough.
Thank you both for following up, I seem to have the most difficult ancestors to find
I believe these to be Thomas Henry White's offspring.
I have found Susan Linacre born 1873 father unknown. Thomas Henry White & Louisa Linacre married 15th Nov 1873. Susan was christened 30th Sept 1873.Saint Malachy Catholic church Nagambie.
Son Thomas Fredrick White ( my grandfather ) was christened 15th Nov 1875. He thought he was a twin and did not know his birth year. I have a certificate stating that No Record Result birth alleged to have occurred about 1875.
They had two more children that I know of. William Henry born 1876 died aged 6 months and Alexander John ( I suspect this baby named after the two grandfathers )born 1885 died 9 weeks on 21st Aug 1885 and mother Louisa died 30th June 1885, so this birth cost mother and child their lives.
I wonder if Thomas Henry married again?

I will keep on digging.
