I've seen some trees with his father as Ralph Brereton 1630 I don't know how accurate they are. I couldn't see any sources. They might be just copying each other. And no name for the mother.
These were the children of Ralph?
Abigail Brereton 1626 ? Marie Brereton 1628 ?
Samuel Brereton 1634 ? Jonathan Brereton 1660 ? 1690

I've given this a bit of thought and I'm wondering about the long gap between Samuel and Jonathon. Was there a second marriage or perhaps Samuel was actually the father of Jonathon.

Hello Jill, It's a huge gap, the mother would have been too old. 35 years between the 1st and last. And look at Ralph! with a birthdate of 1630! Unbelievable how people just add and don't really look. Jan

I think it's more likely that Abigail 1626, Marie 1628, Ralph 1630 and Samuel 1634 were syblings. and Jonathan was the next generation.

Yes, that's exactly what I thought too. Samuel was probably Jonathons father.

I can't find any marriage details for Jonathan and Mary (Maria)Aspinwall, what I've found is a Marriage between Jonathan Brereton 22.12.1650 Warrington, Married Mary (Maria) Sandford (Sandforde) b. 1661 on 24.3.1683 Cheshire, they had a Son Sandford 1685-1722, Jonathan died 24.6.1690. I've seen Mary Aspinwall on someone else's Tree, but I can't find her????

I cannot as yet add much but while researching my family tree I discovered that Ralph Brereton was born in 1630 and died in 1717. He apparently lived at St Bartholomew The Great, London (at least in his final years) where he was buried on 7 July 1717. I do not have any information for his wife other than that she was born in 1635 and died in 1718.

The information I hold for Ralph's children is:
Jonathon Brereton (1660-1690) Maria Brereton (nee Aspinwall) (1661 to ?) Married 24/03/1683.

Sanford Brereton (1685 - 1722) Lyddia Brereton (nee Turner) (1657 to ?) Sanford died on 04/02/1772.

Sanford Brereton (1711 - 1779) Elizabeth Brereton (nee Dale) (1709 - 1785) Sanford died December 1779.

William Brereton (1742 - 1818) Mary Brereton (nee Ledsham) (1750 - 1794) William was born 7th of 9 children and was born on 02/04/1742.

Richard Brereton (1770 - 1860) Elizabeth Brereton (nee Haywood) (1810 - ?) Richard was born 20/05/1770 at Bunbury, Cheshire & died on the 07/01/1860 at Harthill, Cheshire.

Samuel Brereton (1808 - 1888) Elizabeth Bethany Brereton (nee Bartlam) (1810 - ?) Samuel was born 12/06/1808 and died on 27/10/1888.

Joseph Brereton (1830 - 1911) Sarah Brereton (nee Whitehurst) (1831 - 1895) Joseph was born on 06/05/1830 & died in Smallthorne on 26/11/1911.

George Enos Brereton (1862 - 1928) Louise Brereton (nee Millward) (1865 - 1935) George Enos was born number 5 of 10 children and died on 23/11/1928.

I have only verified the information from Joseph Brereton et seq.

Regards John Brereton

The trees that have Jonathon Brereton father of Sandford, marrying Maria Aspinwall I believe are a mistake. I believe that Jonathon married Maria Sandford in Acton Nantwich (hence the name is Sandford for his first born. Very unusual. I have since found the deaths of two Jonathons at Wybunbury of the right era and right timings for these to be father and son. And Jonathon remarried in Wybunbury after Maria's death, which makes it sense for it to be the family home. He was a licenced victualler in Stapeley, also very local. Unfortunately I can't find the births. Wybunbury is very local to Acton and Nantwich. If anybody has information on these births it would be very helpful.

Sorry that should read Sandford was a licenced victualler in Stapeley, where he died.

Hi there, I'm currently covering this area myself with my family history..... I have Mary Sandford marrying Jonathan Brereton, along with buriel citations with Mary and Jonathan upon Mary's death/burial. Her parents were Mary Hassall & Dudley Sandford.... I hope this helps you :O)

Hi
Yes I've been researching this family tree for quite a long time now, as my family is from Harthill. I am a 2xtimes g granddaughter of Thomas and Martha Brereton through their son Edward, who stayed in the UK. I believe there are a lot of the family out in Australia, and the USA too. I believe Dudley Sandford was of a family in Wybunbury. I have long thought we have a connection with Wybunbury, I have been there but unfortunately many of the gravestones have been used for paths, and they have put them face down, so no information to be had from that source!! Thanks for your reply
