Looking for Claw family from Uk

Query by thelmaolive

Hi

I'm researching into the Claw family from the UK. It's a very unusual name so there aren't that many around. Even so, it's still quite difficult to put them all together.

My grandmother was May Beatrice Claw born Dover, Kent in 1891. Her parents were William Stephen Claw and Sarah Ann Turner. However, nearly all the records seem to have Sarah Ann's name wrong, and therefore it is prvoving difficult to locate all of her famiy.

If anyone can help with any information on either family, I'd be very grateful indeed.

Thanks
Tracey

Thanks very much for the information.

May is my grandmother, and I'll be able to try and find the rest of her family now.

I know she had a brother William, who was either a policeman or harbour master at Dover - I'm not sure which. Also, sisters, Ethel, Annie, Margaret, Charlotte, and another sister that died. But, my mother remembered her mother saying that her father said (phew!), that he had six daughters - (this was while he was dragging them all out of the Black Watch army ball), but I can't find any more daughters. Oh well, back to the search

Thanks for all your help.

Sorry for the delay in answering. This is absolutely the right family. My grandmother was the baby of th family born in 1891. There is another daughter, Ethel, but I never noticed the large gaps in their ages before.

Margaret, Aunt Meg, was very close to May, but I'd never realised they were eleven years apart. I'm starting to wonder whether William Stephen married again, and consequently the records stating he married Ann Sarah Mills are correct, but on the other hand, it's a bit of a coincidence that the names are so similar. On May's birth certificate it states that her mother was Sarah Ann Mills Turner.

Well, it's certainly given me a lot to think about.

Thank you so much for all the help you've given me, I really do appreciate it.

Bye
Tracey
