NOTES
There is a 'Speechley's Bridge' in Geraldine, NZ (under which the stream Hae Hae Te Moana flows to the sea), whch was so named before at least 1858

Edward and Robert Speechly (brothers) arrived into Lyttelton on the BRITISH EMPIRE which left London 15 May 1864, arriving 6 September 1864 ... Robert travelled as a Saloon passenger and Edward was a 2nd Cabin passenger

the CHRISTCHURCH CATHEDRAL 1864 - 2012 & the earthquakes over the years
In October 1864 the best speciman of building stone found in the province was discovered on the property of the Rev R. R. BRADLEY at Charteris Bay. A beautiful, white free stone with a clse grain and free fro all oxide or iron, Robert Speechly recommended to the Commisssion to use it for lining the Christchurch Cathedral as the supply was very large, the quarry presented a face bordering on the harbour of nearly half a mile in extent. The foundation stone was laid by Bishop Harper on 16 Dec 1864

? in 1868 Robert Speechly Esq., M.R.I.B.A, late of Christchurch, was appointed architect for the Melbourne Cathedral

? on June 22 1872, E. Speechly and his wife left London for Lyttelton on the St LEONARDS (maybe Edward returned to England to marry??)

He had spared no expense in getting the best blood line obtainable and all the Cattle and Horse were first-class and in excellent condition

? in Oct 1882 Edward Speechly wrote to the Geraldine Road Board to inform them that he had sold R.S. 10864 to Edward HOWDEN

? in 1922 at Timaru, Mr E. Speechly repeated his generous offer of years past to give a ?5 trophy (a value in 2011 of about $464) for a mile race

? in 1936 there was a SPEECHLY MILE SWIMMING RACE held in the Timaru harbour
