Looking for Gavin Wayne Hodson, b: 1947, Wanganui, NZ

Query by Nece

I am trying to locate a possible half brother of my husband's. Gavin Wayne Hodson was born in 1947 in Wanganui, New zealand. His parents were noted as Roy Thomas Hodson (my husband's father) & Iris Maureen Bertha Hodson (nee: Forward). Gavin was adopted out to person's unknown, and Roy & Iris were divorced in 1949. There may have been a further son born in 1949 but I do not have any info on this child. Iris later remarried to a Mr Atchison of Wanganui. She died in 1992 in Wanganui and on her death cert there is mention of 2x sons who were still alive (as at 1992), whose ages would correspond with the dates above.
If anyone has information that may help clarify this please let me know.

Hi there
My mother was Iris Maureen and was married to Graham Atchison. My eldest brother is Gavin. Then there was Trevor, Brent, Nigel (deceased at birth) and myself as the youngest Scott Graham Atchison. Just came across your post. My family is not close so unsure of Gavin age but seems to be around the right age. And my mother was a Forward from Palmerston North. Sure her death was around 1992 as well. Would like to hear from you further and maybe fill in the gaps :)

Hey that's great and thanks for responding. Very interesting in that perhaps Trevor may also be a half brother as well given he was born in 1949. It would be interesting to see if he too was adopted out or perhaps may have even been the child of Graham and Iris, and hence the divirce of Roy and Iris.
Is everyone scattered around NZ or have you all remained around the Palmerston North/Wanganui area? We are in the New Plymouth area and would be appreciative of any further info you have either by email of catching up personally. Were you aware of Gavins (and perhaps Trevors) adoption priort o reading my post? Has there ever been any talk of it prior within your family?
Looking forward to hearing back from you. Steve and Denise Hodson.

Thanks Brent for the info.
My wife has spent a lot of time tracking things down with this and I was fortunate to have meet up with Gavin a couple of years ago in Taupo and have remained in touch since. It was quite eerie at our first meet as he looks so like my father Roy , just an older version. My dad died in 1970 aged only 48 and it was only through the genealogy tracking that I realised I had a half brother somewhere. There are 4 kids from Dads second marriage to our Mum, ranging from 57 to 51 years of age. I'm second at 55. As they say you can't change anything in history and it's all how we are here now and I'm all good with that. Have you been in Hawaii for a long time and/or out of NZ for some time? Again thanks for the info and helping complete the background. Cheers, Steve

Hi Nikki Renae.
Thanks for your response to my initial post. We have managed to locate & meet your Uncle Gavin a couple of years ago. We keep in contact with him to see how he is getting on. My husband Steve & Gavin had the same father, Roy Hodson, who passed away in 1970.
Tracking down your family tree is really interesting & quite addictive. Best of luck with your family investigations, and remember, if you hit a brick wall (like I did with Gavin) don't give up as the breakthrough will eventually come through.
Thanks again
Denise Hodson
