looking for Dr. John Chance of 1863 Arkansas

Query by chuck24

I am part native American. I was born on a stormy holloween day in rural Arkansas. Because the roads were dirt, the rain had created a mire that automobiles could not get in. I was delivered by my grandmother who was an indian midwife. She signed my birth certificate.
There are two concerns that I would like to address. First, my great grandmother was born in an Arkansas hospital, and was listed only as Jane an Indian. Her mother died in childbirth and she was adopted. She married my great grandfather. I would like documentation of her birth.
The second thing that I have been working toward. My gggg grandfather was born in 1792. He was in the war of 1812. Sometime just before the civil war, he became a doctor and a hardshell Baptist preacher. He was raised as a quaker and was opposed to slavery. He lived in Arkansas, a southern state. Apparently he would go around stirring up controvers in regards to slavery. He preached against it from his pulpit. He was known as "Old Chance". The one hint of a written record was given by William Garner in a letter to his wife. He said he was glad that they got Old Chance. Supposedly Jo Shelby's raiders swept through the area, creating havoc. Shelby warned my grandfather not to preach against slavery. That very evening,He preached against slavery again, They supposedly took him from the pulpit and hung him. I would like documentation. Apparently the courthouse in Van Buren Arkansas burned will all the record. I have heard that there are two letters that contain mention of the incident. I would appreciate any help that might be available.

Old man Chance! My grandpa, a descendant, used to tell me stories of ancestors. I recall him telling me about Old man Chance. I know pretty much what you know. I had a copy of the page of where it's mentioned the writer was glad they got him. I also was told that there was a group that was conspiring to murder him because they didn't like him speaking against slavery. I wish I had more information. Were you ever able to locate anything?
