Grace family of Dunmanway (Drinagh) Cork, Ireland

Journal by deeerdre

Looking for info on the children of Daniel Grace and Catherine Sullivan married in 1832 in Cork. They had at least 7 children: Ellen, David (my great grandfather who married Ellen Fitzgerald in 1873 I think), Patrick, Mary, John and James. Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Deirdre

Hi Deirdre,

Well I am the Great-great granddaughter of James! James married a Kate Kearney and he shows up on the 1901 and the 1911 Censuses in Drinagh West. I'm not sure how many children he had but from what I can find; he had my Great-Grandfather: Jeremiah Grace, Thomas, Paul, Cors, Nora, Kate, Hanora, Ellen and Joseph. I'm still looking into what happened to some of these children but its proving a bit difficult!

Kind Regards,

Danielle

Hi Danielle,
Thanks for reply. It's a tough one trying to figure out who is who. I live in France - where do you live?
I don't know if you're familiar with the website: irishgenealogy but it's quite good also - just saw a Patrick (born 1877, I think - son of Kate Kearney and James also).
Take care and happy searching,
Best wishes,
Deirdre

Hi I've researching the Grace family with Paul Grace and so far we think there were two Daniels married to Catherine Sullivans, one in East Drinagh and one in Lettergorman, the one in East Drinagh is the son of Patrick Grace and we think the one in Lettergorman is the son of David Grace. Through DNA testing we have worked out that my line must be either ninth or tenth cousins as we can't fit it in with the other brother James just yet. hope this helps

just bit more as now I've realised your family were living in Lettergorman next to mine.
Daniel originally was living in Lisbealad, born 1806 died 1881 (I have a copy of the death certificate as I was trying to work out which Daniel was my relative)
we don't think he is a close relative of John Grace who lived there before him, but I think John was a brother to my GreatGG grandfather Daniel and Ellen Murphy Oh! and I think your catherine Sullivan was from Ardfield.

Hi Det??,
Thanks for that precision about 2 Daniels being married to 2 Catherine Sullivans and yes,"my" Daniel married a Catherine Sullivan in Ardfield in 1832. Such a complicated family for research, don't you think?? I've been doing the jigsaw puzzle for 4 years and lots of missing pieces - could take another 20 years - I was born in Killarney in Ireland - am living in France but my grandad; Gerald (son of David, grandson of Daniel) left nothing after him (or before him!!!) to probe on!!! Just using needles in haystacks, basically!!
Anyway, thanks for info and if needed, I've got free phoning for landlines for Europe and North America.
Great hearing from you, little light at some part of tunnel...
Take care and have a

I believe I found your family in Cork.

Daniel Grace married Catherine Sullivan in Cork County on 3-4-1832. Sponsors were Joanne Daly and Richelle Brion.
Recorded Diocesan Area = CORK & ROSS
Recorded Parochial Area = ARDFIELD AND RATHBARRY

Children born to Daniel and Catherine (kate, cate, kat, cathe) There may be 2 families as there are similar dates for children born to possible parents. The other possibility is that some of the children were baptized at a later date than their birth date, and some died as infants/children.
1. Ellen Grace baptized 1-31-1835, Parish/Church/Congregation - DRIMOLEAGUE (sp Patrick Grace and Cathe Quirk)
2. Julian Grace Baptized on 1-6-1835 in Drimoleague.(Sp = Tim Sullivan and Mary Grace)
3. Kate Grace baptized 11-5-1837, Parish/Church/Congregation - DRIMOLEAGUE (sp Jn Daly and Joan Shea)
4. Mary Grace baptized 11-17-1837, Parish/Church/Congregation - DRIMOLEAGUE (sp David Grace and Mary Donovan)
5. Pat Grace baptized 10-13-1841, Parish/Church/Congregation - DRIMOLEAGUE
(sp Patrick Grace and Margaret Sullivan)
6. David Grace baptized 10-31-1841, Parish/Church/Congregation - DRIMOLEAGUE (sp Jn Sullivan and Mary Hanrahan)
7. Pat Grace baptized 7-27-1842, Parish/Church/Congregation - ARDFIELD & RATHBARRY (sp Tim Sullivan and Mary Grace
8. Cathe Grace baptized 10-8-1843, Parish/Church/Congregation - DRIMOLEAGUE (sp Jas Grace and Mary Sullivan)
9. Mary Grace baptized 6-22-1844, Parish/Church/Congregation - DRIMOLEAGUE (sp Creedon and Mary Lane)
10. Jas Grace baptized 4-20-1846, Parish/Church/Congregation - DRIMOLEAGUE (sp Jno T. Nyhan and Mary McCarthy)
11. Jn Grace baptized 2-24-1849, Parish/Church/Congregation - DRIMOLEAGUE (sp Jas Grace and Ann Grace)
12. Jn Grace baptized 2-14-1849, Parish/Church/Congregation - DRIMOLEAGUE (sp D. Creedon and Margaret Grace)
13. Jas Grace baptized 2-18-1851, Parish/Church/Congregation - DRIMOLEAGUE (sp Jerh Barnane and Ellen Grace)
14. Cathe Grace baptized 5-17-1851, Parish/Church/Congregation - DRIMOLEAGUE (sp Timy Sullivan and Jude Collins)

There is also a Dan'l Grace that married Johanna Sullivan in Drimoleague in 1833, but all the names above say a version of Catherine for the mother's name.

Hi AncestrySisters,

Hi Deirdre
no need to worry on my account, it was that Paul Grace's tree was written down by an old aunt who knew these relatives, and if you look on the irishgenealogy.ie website that some children are born in east drinagh and some in lisbealad and he thinks they are two different families as there are some less than a year inbetween them.

Hi Det,
No problem - better to be sure than sorry - I appreciate advice on ancestors _ don't want to establish a family tree and discover in 10 years time that some leaves or branches are wrong - no problem . Just replied to your private message.
Best wishes,
Deirdre
