Hi, I am attempting to complete a one name study of the surmane Calladine, and all its variations in England. I suppose it would be more correct to say that I am attempting to finish the start of a one name study.

I am slowly placing journals about all the little sub clans I have come across along the way, onto this site, and would love to hear from anybody who has a calladine, Carradine, Collidyne, Caladine (you get the gist) in thier own tree.

The search is not restrcicted to the shores of the UK, as I understand that we as a clan originated (Irish Descent) in Iceland, and were driven south by the black vikings (Danes) around 900 AD. we arrived in Cheshire, and settled in a small community (near Malplas) then called Carrick Wardine, or ring of stone, in Gaelic. Over the years this name was simplified, and the first lot to leave, went back to Ireland, and founded the Carwardine dynasty, famous now for being coffee merchants of Dublin.

My own ancestors left during the War of the Roses, to settle in the Derbyshire Peak District, and have the name Calladine. those who stayed ended up with the name Carden, and many were swept into the cities of Manchester and Liverpool during the industurial revoloution, when my own branch were swept underground in the pits of Nottinghamshire.

Another family trade was Framework Knitting, and a few Calladines went to Calias in France when the Luddites started to smash up thier machinary.

the rest of the clan was spread around the globe by emigration.

I Want to talk to as many Calladines and thier extended families as I can, the wider the net I can spread, the greater my chances of finding out some information about my own direct line.
