Journal by Ann17

Hi, I live in Australia and I am trying to find the above person emigration records. I last saw him on the 1851 England Census then he disappeared. He is the son of Thomas Whiley Born 1811 and Elizabeth CURL born 1809. He married in South Australia in 1864. I have heaps of information on him but cannot find him between 1851 and 1864. Can anyone help please. Kindest Regards. Ann17

I think this ** is your Alfred Edwin John Whiley but he is using the name John. Parents are correct and he did have a sister Caroline and Mary Curle were on the 1851 census. For reasons unknown he is listed as 10 yrs younger than he is.

Re looked I now do not think this is your Alfred Edwin John Whiley because there was also a brother John 3 on the 1851 census. Will try again.

Hi Noggin,

Thank you for your response, yes John is a younger brother. It is the correct family though.

Thanks again for your help.

Kind Regards, Ann

Hi Ann,

I'm Alfreds Great grand-daughter. From his birth certificate he was born just Alfred Whiley in 1838 to Thomas and Elizabeth. The info in the 1851 census is correct and then he disappears till he marries Martha Baldwin in South Australia. As the story goes he was a merchant seaman who jumped ship in Australia - I havent yet been able to ascertain what ship he was on. He married Martha Baldwin and one of their children was James Arthur Whiley who was my Grandfather. I located Alfred in 1856 on shipping records (BT118) coming home to England but nothing since then. He married Martha in 1864 so he must have arrived in Australia between 1856 and 1864!
I'm affraid the search is still on for info on the ship he came out on to Australia.

Regards
Chris
