Descendants of William Love (d. 1793) of Lunenburg County VA

Journal by LaRue

I'll be glad to exchange information. I'm a direct descendant of William Love through his oldest son Robert Love who settled in Craven County SC (the parent county of Fairfield County SC), then through Robert's daughter Magdalen Love (d. 1837 in Greene County AL) who married William Gardner Ford (d. 1805 in Fairfield County) in Fairfield County ca 1780.

William had a large family: Robert, William Jr., Samuel, Isaac and Jacob (twins), Alse Ammon, Flora, John, Mary, Sally, Hannah---there may be others, but I don't think so. The age range of the children from various records implies that William Love must have been married at least twice, possibly three times.

Most of the children I've only traced for a generation. However, I can provide genealogy through Robert Love's daughter Magdalen down to my own generation.

Now I'm seeking William Love's parents. I think he was born ca 1700, possibly as late as 1720. One posting says he was from County Antrim, Ireland, and another says he was from Glasgow, Scotland. I have not found any posting that provides a source for his origins.

To confuse things further, Isaac and Jacob Love removed from Lunenburg as young men and moved to South Carolina near their brother Robert. Just to the north of Fairfield County is Chester County where in 1768 a large number of Scots-Irish settled. Among them are Loves, some of whom have the same given names as my own Love family line. Of course, none of the names are unusual, so it's easy to have a mix-up. So far I've found no relationship among the Loves of Chester County SC and those in Fairfield County SC.
