I just wondered how long everyone has been researching their Family Tree.

I started about 10 years ago when my Dad was doing his side. I decided to do my husband's family which turned out to be a lot harder than I thought it would be. We had no info for his parents except their birth dates - no places of birth.

After many months of searching and going down many wrong roads, I eventually got the correct family. With his father's side we have a direct line back to 1815 (husband's Great Great Grandfather born Ireland) and can take his Great Grandmother's line back to 1478 in Scotland. His Mother's side can go back with direct line to 1780 in Scotland and with her mother's side only 1860 as the family originated from Goa.

I also took over for my Dad's side as well as my Mum's side and have got back to 1780's with both sides in Wales.

I have a total of nearly 2900 people now compared to the 50 we had when I started but that covers both sides of the family. The tree covers 18 generations.

With a bit of help, patience and the Internet I have managed to find family we didn't know existed.

So how long have you been searching and how many wrong roads have you taken?

Thanks for reading

Carol

I have been researching for 2 years...I have found "lost" relatives through internet sites and gained quite a lot of knowledge about my husband's family. Mine is locked up in eastern europe,Russia and Poland....very hard to get through there. I find the research exciting and rewarding. Angie
