I am trying to find information regarding my grandfather's brother, Friedrich Illenberger.
His last location was in Ostrov-karlovy, at a retirement home. He was married to Lory Illenberger, who is buried in a local cemetery there. The last letter my grandfather received was in 1946 and he said the Czechs were going to be transporting all of the Germans out of the country, but didn't know where they were going to take them.

Hi Jan, do you have any more info where/ when he was born, lory's maiden name did they live in Ostrov-karlovy, anything that may help.
All very good questions. I have limited information on Friedrich, what I have I've gotten from letters he wrote to my grandfather. All are in German and the handwriting is difficult to read. It's been a slow process, but I know there is information in the letters, the challenge is deciphering it. My family dispersed when the Russians occupied Austria. I do not know Lory's maiden name, haven't found that information. According to Friedrich, she passed around 1944. I tried to find her grave in that area, but have been unsuccessful. My grandfather was born in July 1863, baptized in Hollenberg, Austria, I would have to assume Friedrich was born around that timeframe. There were two other brothers, Rudolf and Josef Illenberger, Rudolf Illenberger married Elizabetha Stiansy. That branch of the family still exists in Austria and Norway. (Illenberger, Stiansy, Keltner) This is why I'm having a difficult time researching him. My grandfather passed in 1948 and I am still deciphering the couple letters from other family members from that time. Friedrich referred to where he was living as Schlackenwerth.
