Hi Honeymeade, are you aware that Albert died 28 Dec 1882 aged 41 and is buried in the Eastern Cemetery, Invercargill ?

Ann's full name was Ann Jeffs Bloxham. She may have remarried? I will wait for your response so as not to go looking for what you already know

Thank you for that. No I didn't know about Albert. Do you know how he died?
Ann Wilkes born Bloxham. Her mother was a Jeffs.
My maternal Gr grandmother was Carey Ann Newton but the shipping list had her as Karen or Keren! My mother died when I was 19 and I never knew much about this side of the family until recently.
The children that came out with Albert & Ann other than Carey Ann I know very little about. It's nice to fill in the gaps.
Ann would have been still a young woman and the youngest that I know about, Frederick would have only been about 8 yr. A tough life for them
Thank you for your help.

Also, BDM has Karen listed as Caroline when she married ??
I will write up a bit of journal and see what we can find

Yes..
Marriage District of Timaru...83/2303 etc
Has Caroline Wilkes.
Her mother in law Sarah Newton was one of the witnesses.
No mention of her own mother being there. Mothers maiden name spelt without the 'h'
Her grave stone in Picton has Carey Ann Newton. I have a photo of this.
I'd like to find out more of her early movements and also about her siblings.
Thank you so much for the help..

I have found Ann. She did not remarry. She died in 1909 aged 62 and is buried with her son Thomas and his wife Letitia at Invercargill 😊

Also buried with them is a 12 hour old grandson of Ann, Allan Wilkes, son of Ann's son Frederick Albert Wilkes & his wife Louisa Hermann
I will try and get this journal up and readable asap

Albert Wilkes & Ann Jeffs Bloxham arrive on the 'Peeress' 1874

by Honeymeade on 2019-06-25 01:23:59

Albert & Ann Wilkes nee Bloxham were married 22 Sept.1862 @ Saint Lawrence Darlaston Stafford England. She 16 yr.
The Peeress passenger list listed them and six of their children.
It's their movements from then on that I'd like to find out. What happened to Caroline's siblings and their families.

But I added the link above last night Honeymeade.
It contains the life of all the family, the siblings and their spouses and their children etc. Where Albert worked and how he was killed. Ann's second unhappy marriage etc etc. Here is the link again. Click on it and it will open to a journal on the lives of all the family (near the bottom of the journal). I first wrote a story of the immigrants that arrived into Timaru, the Wilkes being one of those families. It gives you a look at the terrible conditions your ancestors had to live in. Then a timeline on all the Wilkes children after that

Thank you so much ngairedith so many gaps now filled. It would be lovely to substantiate the Jane/ James ?

by ngairedith on 2019-06-27 11:19:27

Hi Honeymeade, I have found that 'Jane' was indeed James. James was (Christened) 30 Oct 1870 in Tysoe, Warwickshire to Albert & Ann Wilkes. I will be updating that journal often so keep an eye on it for added info
