Dear Verdun1950, Hi there. Welcome. I saw your posted message in the introductory journal mentioning that you were trying to find HOLDGATEs in Australia...

If you click on my profile, and goto Category - Country: Australia, you will see journals that I have written containing lots of pertinent links to aid in your research. I have written one for genealogy in every State of Australia, including one for genealogy Australia-wide.

And for your HOLDGATE gg grandparents, they should be on the 1841 Census for starters with their parents and siblings. Marriage, Baptism and Burial records should be in the Parish Records links. Check out RootsChat - FREE Genealogy Research. Find the Norfolk Child Board. And check out the Norfolk resources provided by many rootschatters.

Best of luck,
Alison.

Dear Alison:

Thanks so very much for the information you have provided me about the Holdgate's in Australia. I haven't checked your profile yet as I wanted to get this thank you out to you before I get too involved and forget to write you back. I'm in another world when I get into researching family history and everything goes out the door when I'm into it!

I was hoping I would find the parents of my gr-gr-grandfather in the 1941 Census records but so far I haven't and I'm not sure why I have reached such a blockade but I will continue to search. I do believe he was the first Holdgate to be born in Norfolk; that this line of Holdgate's is the only one that landed up in Norfolk and that they have come from another county but I don't have any clue as to which county it could be. Having looked at the distribution of the Holdgate's in 1891, they quite possibly came from Yorkshire, Lancashire, Derbyshire or Essex as these counties have the largest proportions of the name so I guess I'll start with these.

As well, thank you for the link to RootsChat - FREE Genealogy Research; I just may get my answer there.

So once again, my appreciate for you taking the time to write to me and I'm am looking forward to checking out your profile and the link you provided.

Regards,
Heather Holdgate
