AUSTRALIA: MAURER family Glen Innes, Moree and Narrabri areas, NSW

Dear FamilyTreeCircle Members, Hi. This is another family in my family tree that I have inadvertently researched. They are not my ancestors, but the information may assist a descendant. My connections are to the Voss family.

George MAURER married Elizabeth Frances unknown and they had 8 children:-

1.Lucy H. MAURER b 1882 Glen Innes NSW
married 1902 Moree NSW to Edward A. COOPER - two children i) Edward and ii) Arthur.

2.John Robert MAURER b 1884 Glen Innes NSW, d 1936 Boggabri NSW
married 1909 Manilla NSW to Cecilia C. TAYLOR b 1889 Tamworth. Cecilia was the daughter of James TAYLOR and Emily unknown.

3.George Philip MAURER b 1887 Inverell NSW, d 1967 Tamworth
married 1907 Glen Innes NSW to Ethel E. PYWELL * b 1883 Glen Innes. Ethel was the daughter of Thomas PYWELL b 1836 St George, Leicester, England and Elizabeth HUTTON b 1852 Ranger's Valley NSW Aust.

4.Arthur Joseph MAURER b 1890 Moree NSW, d 1966 Malean NSW
married 1918 Grafton NSW to Olive D. MCCARTNEY / MACCARTNEY. Olive was the daughter of Edward J. MCCARTNEY and Rachel unknown.

5.Helen C. MAURER b 1892 Moree NSW

6.Charles Clifford MAURER b 1895 Moree, d 1958 Chatswood NSW
married 1916 St.Leonards NSW to Sylvia O. HEATH b 1898 Wagga Wagga NSW to parents: Thomas C. HEATH b abt 1850 and Emily C.J. DEE b 1863 Shoalhaven NSW.

7.Edward S. MAURER b 1901 Moree NSW

8.Mary T. MAURER b 1904 Narrabri NSW


Note: There may have been other children born but the NSW bdms online only lets you search for births up to 1905.

A search of the deaths index for all children with surname MAURER that died with parents names George and Elizabeth reveals perhaps another child that died in 1886 at Emmaville NSW, namely William C. MAURER (Registration No.9693/1886).

Alison, I've just read your info. about the families around Narrabri.Guess where I
live? Thanks for your suggestions. I'll poke along flat out and get to it.I also have connections with the Shoalhaven area.The Robertson and Coulon clans.

You're welcome Ronnie. In my genealogy research I've found extremely helpful to use the local family history groups/historical societies in whatever cities/towns in the States of Australia of the families I am researching. Sometimes there is a small fee, e.g. photocopying of records. And sometimes you get just plain lucky because local museums have info on families you are researching.

If you click on my profile you should see lots of CURRENT genie links for each State in Australia.

I also recommend having some kind of system when you are researching families, e.g. this is what I do, check the National Archives of Australia, check the bdm websites, especially NSW as it's free and online, then check PROV, QLD state archives, NSW state records, familysearch etc. Have some kind of search chart (I've seen these offered free to download on sites) and record all the searches that you have undertaken so as to avoid duplication further down the track. We've all done that before ... groan.

G'day,

There are two separate Maurer families that came to NSW, both of them large in number.

George Maurer married Elizabeth Frances Haley in Moree, NSW, on 12.12.1881. In addition to the 8 children you mention, I have an Olive. E.,born 1899 in Moree and a Norman b,1907. Your Lucy H. is actually Lucy Thelma.

George was the 2nd of 11 children of John Maurer & Helena Quetscher. He was born on 6.10.1855 at Wellingrove (near Glen Innes), NSW. George died in Grafton in 1931.

I'm descended from his next brother, Samuel Maurer, & I have some info on the Maurers & Quetschers if you're interested.
