Cooper, Sydney to Utah?

Profile Research Contact | Joseph James Cooper b,1813, London was married to Hannah Randall b,1811, Wiltshire, England. They travelled on the "Commodore Perry" to Sydney in 1856 with their 4 children. Jane b,1841, Mary b,1844, Harriet, b, 1846 & Joseph b, 1848. Joseph, Hannah & the children (except for Jane) show up as buried in Utah in the very late 1890's & thereabouts. Why would a family travel agin the distance to the US? They are not on any passenger lists I have looked at.

Yes I have them on the British census, as I said the problem was the passsenger list from Sydney to Utah. I did find a James Cooper on a list from Sydney to Seattle at age 80, but this one arrived in 1893, my James died in 1885. (strike one!) I do have James & Hannah on the 1880 US Federal census. I will try the sites you offered, Thankyou.

Dear Helen, Hi there. Have you at least tried looking for your COOPER/RANDALL families on the 1841 and 1851 Census' for England?

Also try the Rootschat - Emigrants - Emigrants to United States Board to see if others can find them on passenger lists ... and/or look at links there.
For a family to then travel to the US from Australia could have meant that they had relatives there who may have paid for them I suppose.
Good luck, they have to be there somewhere.
