JESSE UPTON of WINDSOR NSW 1806 - 1873

Jesse Upton was born 30 Jul 1806 at Windsor NSW and died 15 Nov 1873 Emu Plains (Penrith) NSW Australia.
Jesse was the third child of eight children born to Thomas Upton and Sarah Pigg. ( see Journal )

On 31 Jan 1826 at the Windsor CofE St. Matthews,Jesse married Lucy BROWN born 1814 which makes her 13 years old! (Apparently he needed special special permission from the Governor of the day.)
They had 3 children before she absconded with William Norris to Queensland and had 5 children with him.
William Norris then died and Lucy had another child with a Laban WHITE Lucy died in 1976.

Lucy Brown's parents were :
Daniel BROWN b. 03 Mar 1782 Essex d. 1886 Windsor NSW. and Mary POTTER nee WILMOTT b. ? d.?.
Daniel Brown was transported from Essex in 1811 for robbery on the "Guildford" arriving Australia 18-12-1812. His English wife Ellen BUTCHER b.? d. 03 Feb 1811 Sussex with whom he had 3 female children, was buried just before his deportation.
Maria BROWN b. 1803 Belchamp Walter Essex UK
Elizabeth BROWN b.1808 Belchamp.
Kitty BROWN b. 1805 Belchamp.
Daniel's parents were : David BROWN and Mary COPPEN and he had a brother named David BROWN.
Daniel had 6 children in Australia with Mary who he married 30 Aug 1813 at St.Matthews Windsor NSW :
Lucy BROWN (above) b. 1814 d. 1876
Mary A. BROWN b. 1815
Ann BROWN b. 1818
David BROWN b. 1820 d. 20 Aug 1887 Rouse Hill NSW.
Martha BROWN b. 1822.
Emma BROWN b. 1824.

Lucy Brown and Jesse Upton had 3 children :
1. Thomas UPTON b. 06 Aug 1830 Windsor NSW. d. 03 Jan 1891 Penrith NSW m. Elizabeth BOWLES
2. Daniel Stephen UPTON b. 11 Sep 1832 Windsor NSW. d. 03 Jan 1906 Surry Hills NSW m. 30 Oct 1855 Penrith NSW Jane Matlida GREENHALGH.
3. Mary UPTON b. 31 Aug 1834 Windsor NSW d. 16 Feb 1913 Dubbo NSW m. 02 Apr 1856 Windsor NSW Joseph Thomas DRUITT.

I have no data on the children of Lucy Brown and William Norris.

In 1849 Jesse married Mary BEASLEY at St. Andrews Scots Church Sydney.

In 1849 Jesse Upton married Mary CHARLTON in Penrith NSW and they had 5 children, all born at Penrith NSW :
Jane UPTON b. 1859
Georgina UPTON b. 08 Apr 1861
Sarah UPTON b.1863
Charles UPTON b. 1865
Arthur C. UPTON b. 1870

In 1853 he married Mary GREENHAIGH at Richmond NSW CofE (V18531346 158/1853)

I have not purchased the documents to see which Mary belongs to which child. I will leave that up to others.

Hey there Rob, Hmmm 13yrs old. My my. To find the children of Lucy BROWN and William NORRIS checkout the rootschat.com site - goto the Emigrants to Australia board. Someone should have the bdm indexes for all the States of Australia. I couldn't find any listed under BROWN or NORRIS in NSW, and as you say they went to QLD. You'll definitely find out more. They'll be on the old pioneers indexes on cd-rom. Lots of rootschatters have those.

Lucy would have had 3 children by the age of 20, her first at age 16. She had her last of 10 children at age 52, and she died aged 62 if all the data is correct.
Data given by a descendant of Lucy Brown's Uncle David Brown who also emigrated to Australia.

Children listed must be children to Mary Greenhaigh. i'm a descent of Mary Charlton/Beasley. She is one of the same people. Mary had three children with Charles Beasley the 2nd, they never married, before having three children with Jesse.
1/ Jesse Joseph 1840-1903
2/Elizabeth Sarah 1843-1921
3/Edwin James 1846- ?
Jesse and Mary married after the children in 1949

AND Mary Charlton first married Charles Kable in 1825, he was executed in 1826. Then she had three children to Charles Beasley the 2nd. Then three children with Jesse Upton and they married in 1849.

I have updated my data from Kareena V.
They were certainly swingers in those days with multiple partners and many children !!!!!
In time I will amend these files!
