Looking for proof that Chaney Smith was cherokee native american indian. She was born about 1780 in either North Carolina, or near nc Virginia. The records are unclear. All of the census has her marked down as white, although this is not unusual since the husband spoke for the family. Her husband's name was James Maynard who served three terms in the Revolutionary War. He was born in South Carolina, moved to Tennesse, Kentucky, Virginia, and received a pension in West Viginia. If anyone knows anything please help....
