Thomas Northeast and Matilda Westbury

I am looking for anyone who can add to the info I have found on the Northeasts

THOMAS NORTHEAST was b abt 1791 Whiteparish, Wiltshire He was the son of Thomas Northeast and Mary Russell.
A gamekeeper in 1841 and a Ag Lab in 1851. He died Mar Q 1854 at Amport, Hampshire.
Wife: MATILDA WESTBURY b 1798 Burbage, Wiltshire
They married 24/8/1818 Amport, Wiltshire.
CHILDREN:
1. Ann Northeast b Winterslow chr 18/10/1819 Burbage
2. Sarah Northeast b Buckinghamshire chr 9/6/1822 Burbage –married William L’Homme
3. Henry Northeast chr 3/11/1822 Hedgerley, Buckinghamshire
Married Kezia Hoare 31/3/1850 Pentonville, Middlesex
4. John Northeast b abt 1827 married Mary Ann Bloomfield
5. William Robert Northeast b abt 1828 Alton, Hampshire married Elizabeth Reed
6. Alice/Eclipse Northeast b abt 1831 married Tom Hutchence
7. Giles northeast b abt 1833 Andover, Hants chr 9/4/1837 Amport
8. Thomas Northeast b abt 1837 chr 9/4/1837 Amport.

The only solid source of information is Henry Northeast’s marriage certificate. It says his father was Thomas Northeast ( occupation gamekeeper) Witnesses: Edmund Hyde, Lydia Hoare, Ann Dilworth.
Henry’s daughter Sarah Northeast married George Page (my gt grandfather) and his son William Henry Page married my grandmother Edna Mary Bridget Leer in Australia.

According to my Dad when his family did some research in the 1970's the family tree went back about 150 years, so I am wondering if our branch split off from your branch around this time. Does your research give any evidence of a Northeast heading off to the "colonies" in the 1820's to 1840's. You may also want to search for a Dutch connection, because I am told some of our ancestors were from Holland. Do you know if the christening records were Anglican or Catholic. There are a number of evangelicals in our family tree, very fundamentalist. This may account for the split. The Plymouth Brethren were quite active in England by the 1830's.

Hi Lawrence,
As far as I know none of the Northeasts in my tree went to the colonies and from what I know they all were Anglican. At the moment I am trying to find a link to the NORTHEASTS in the early 1600's so if they have a Dutch beginning it was before that.

I can confirm the dates of birth of the children of Thomas and Mathilda. They were written in his own hand in a notebook which is lodged at the Dorset History Centre and are as follows:
Ann 18 April 1819 born Burbage
Sarah 16 March 1821 born Hedgerley Bucks
Henry 2 October 1822 born Hedgerley Bucks
John 7 August 1825 born Cawath Berks
William 28 June 1828 both Alton Hants
Eclipse 1 September 1831 born Camberwell London
Giles 18 November 1833 born Andover Hants
Thomas 5 February 1837 born Amport Wilts
The family obviously moved around a lot. The notebook was written when he was working at Lytchett in Dorset. I only had a quick look but will try to give some time to it when I am in next. From memory he even put in the times of birth but I did not make a note of that!

I am very grateful for your info as it confirms that the 1841 list of children was correct and gives me the missing birth places of John, William and Eclipse( who changed her name to Alice)
