Journal by sissy3025

I have researched this Jowers line back to George Jowers in Autauga County, Alabama, 1829 when he died . He was married to Elizabeth, children;Mary, John, James , Wiley , unknown daughter, unknown Daughter,Martha, Sarah, Celia William Warren, Nancy, Matilda and Thomas C. I was wanting to convey this tribute to Winston Horton Jowers , my uncle. Dayna Griego , his daughter wrote this:

Winston Horton Jowers February 8,1923-August 14,2010

In my own words for him.....Where I am From
I am from the smell of cedar and scrub oak hills in the heart of Texas after a
summer rain... slick red mud , ornery cows and a million stories to tell. Model T's and horse drawn buggies I remember.
I am from Howdy and Ya'll all the way from Meridian in Burnet County over the hills to Brown and Camanche Counties punch'n cows and chopp'n cotton
sometimes barefoot and patched coveralls but always willing to help.
When Mama died the need was especially felt as the little children cried with grief
and Daddy needed tha hand of the eldest son.
I am from little brother Clinton's infectious grin, sister Della's love of fish,
Mozelle's high energy get-r done attitude, and sister Gertie's adventurous streak.
I am from four other brothers and sisters that was added to the mix when Daddy
married Gladys, his mate for life, sweet Irene, cowboy Junior, tiny Johnny, and
troubled Alvena. But the family was not complete.
I am from three more brothers and one sister, rock and roll W.O> and Billy Wayne,
then Willie Oreatha, the lastest and great baby sister, and the last
baby boy Donald Ray bringing the number of children to 13.
From here to there I am from family pulling at my heartstrings whenever I traveled.
I am from CC Camps in Arizona cutting trails in National Parks and sending
money home to Texas, to fighting a war in the Philippines.
I am from war and I am from peace.
Tuberculosis and war wounds healed in Colorado and New Mexico even though
doctors said they never would.
I am form Sweet Mary who stole my heart and from that time on New Mexico and I
would never part for long.
I am from the oldest daughter , Dayna and only son Winston, Jr. ( Sonny) who came along
and here we went.... California, Colorado, Wyoming, Oklahoma, Texas, oh
would I ever find a home? One day the travels became too much and mary and Tex
parted ways.
I am from broken hearts and broken homes and deep scars, but I gave it awhile and
a new life prevailed. Lovely Margaret and sweet Michelle filled the void and
happy time again.
I am from the adopted home that I could never imagined I would spend the
better part of my life, New Mexico. I cannot be parted from the smell of pinon and
Chamisa after monsoon rains, red, but especially green chile stew, and I can't
imagine not sitting on my back porch watching the ever changing Sandia mountains
as they change from pink and maroon at sunrise to magneta and scarlet at sunset.
I am from a multitude of cars , eighteen-wheelers, rifles and pistols and
wonderous knives , but most of all
I am from the family that has always been my pride , my joy , and sometimesmy
pain.
