Hello,

My name is Dorothy, but my nickname is Scooter. I know, sounds odd for a grown woman, but, it's a name given to me by my father when I was just learning to crawl and I just turned 49 in May, 2013. Besides, Scooter fits me better than Dorothy!

As for names I am researching, the surnames GEORGE, HENRY, MOATES & MOODY are the basic ones. Other names include MANN, DAVIS, DELOACH, HUTCHESON, DELOACH, HOUSTON, HALL & THOMPSON.

One brick wall is the 1st wife of Jesse Martin "Bud" DeLoach. We've been told her name was Carrie Black, yet a marriage record shows the last name Surrency. I have found no info concerning her death, a divorce, a burial, nothing. It's like she simply vanished between 1910 and 1913. Tattnall COunty, Georgia

Another is John Emmett Henry, born May 18, 1818 and died February 8, 1900. He first married Martha Bowen. They had 5 children. She died February 1862. He then married Rachel Branch on May 11, 1862 in Laurens County, Georgia. They had 2 children. I can find NOTHING on John Emmett Henry prior to a census record in 1850. The 1880 census record shpows his father born in Virginia and his mother born in South Carolina. He moved quite a bit, but died in Emanual County, Georgia.

I look forward to corresponding with other researchers!

Those GA counties changed quite frequently as indian lands became available to settlers. Try finding a map that shows the counties by date, and you may find your folks in an adjoining county.

wizard28,

I saw the marriage license and her maiden name was listed as SURRENCY. I can not find either a Mary or a Carrie Surrency in any census, other than after she is married to Jesse Martin DeLoach, the 1900 and the 1910. She disappears after that and Jesse remarried in 1913 to Minnie Varnadoe.

The burial in Beard's Creek is that of another Carrie DeLoach. There are many Carrie's being married to many Jesse DeLoach's in that area, with very close dates of birth! UGH!

As for her name, I've seen it listed as Mary C., Carrie M., and Carrie B. The "B", according to my grandmother, was for her last name which she swore was Carrie Black.

I'm afraid she will always remain a mystery to me....
