The police would not force an objection if the Committee could see their way clear to grant the license. The house was in good repair and commodious - The license was granted

Great fears are entertained for the safety of Patrick Gillan and two other men who left Twelve Mile, Grey Valley, three weeks ago for Gillan's station, Upper Grey. They had only fourteen day's provisions, and a fierce gale occurred since the departure. Search parties have gone out. Gillan is an old and respected settler, and has a wife and grown up family

ALFRED served in WWI as Major 2/582. He was Killed in Action 1 August 1917 in France & buried Pont-D'Achelles Military Cemetery, Nieppe, Nord, France. He was awarded the Military Cross ' This officer came out as a Lieutenant with the Main Expeditionarry Force from New Zealand. He was promoted to Captain at Gallipoli, and when the expansion of the Artillery took place was given command of a battery. Throughout the whole campaign he has done excellent work, first as FOO then as BC'
