halfwit_45 on 2008-10-25 02:29:29hi there jamboree i am led to beleive that the stevens in pallamallawa were 1st cousins of my father of course that generation are all gone i am 63 and i am hungary for any information i was born and raised in melbourne dad left moree when he went off to war in1940 i am know living in pallamallawa have been for 40yrs but i do not seem to be able to get any thing going about the stevens hope you can help me or put me on the right track many thanks yvonne haley.
The name can be spelt a number of ways and on most records is Shufflebottom. The name change to Stevens did not happen before they left England. James Shufflbottom came out as a convict, married Ellen Butler at Port Macquarie and then had a number of children. After James died Ellen had an illegitimate child who was originally registered as Shufflebottom but christened as Stevens. The family started using Stevens from this time 1859. Ellen then married Michael Ryan and had another 2 children by him.
