Looking for BURTON of Mecklenburg Co, Va.
My grandfather's name was Lemmie Lucas Burton, born in Virginia. His father (my great grandfather) was Joseph Benjamin Burton, Jr (1882-1930). His mother (my great grandmother) was Ida Morris (1886-1977).
The earliest reference I have for Joseph Burton, Jr. is his WWI draft registration and the 1920 census which lists his wife and children. I cannot find out any information on his father, which may or may not have been named Joseph Burton. In those days, children often got named for uncles and since the lived in close proximity, the namesake would be a "Jr." without being a son. The only information I have on his mother is that her name is Sarah Elizabeth and she was probably called Betsy or Beta. She died in 1930, the same year as her son and is buried in Greensboro, NC.
If anyone has information that could help me, I would appreciate it.
