Looking for Captain David Dall - Clan Lines.

Journal by jgavin

David Dall joined the Clan Line in 1885. I think he was the brother of my grandmother Louisa Blair Brownlie (Dall) b. 8 Oct 1861 - d. 16 Feb 1958, who married Rev. Claude Brownlie on 14 Jul 1892 at Ceres, Fife, Scotland. Louisa Blair Dall, daughter of William Christie Dall and Margret White, was born at Rock Cottage, Irvine Place, Stirling, Scotland.

Captain David Dall was relieved of his post as captain of "Clan Shaw" at London on 19 Apr 1911 on account of failing eyesight. He resigned from the company on 25 Apr 1911.

Captain Dall had a son, also David, who was appointed to "Clan Argyllshire" on 25 Jun 1918. He left the ship an Sydney on 28 Feb 1919.

Captain David Dall may also have had a brother Andrew Dall who was serving in the First Company of Stirlingshire Rifle Volunteers in 1869.

My Great Grand Uncle Rev Claude BROWNLIE married Louisa Blair BROWNLIE and I have only just discovered his wife Louisa through a BROWNLIE researcher in South Africa.
Kind regards

Hi Brenda,
Its a very small world! Captain David DALL was Bethea GEMMELL'S brother-in-law. His other sister, Margret, married Rev James Anderson BEATTIE who drowned in the sinking of the "Lusitania" in 1915. Margret "Maggie" BEATTIE survived the sinking and went on to pass away in Edinburgh about 1942.
Kind regards
Gavin
