Hi my name is Kara Gurney,

My Grandfather was Andrew Marcellus Bramley and his mother was Harriet Amelia Strongman she was the 5th daughter of Robert Strongman & Esther (nee Robinson). Matilda was Amelias 3rd oldest sister. There is a very good book detailing Rokas descendents of Ngati Ruanui the book is written by Tony Sole. My Grandfather was placed in an orphanage when he was 2 years old with his brothers so we are still searching for information. If you have any stories, photos or information about Amy Strongman (.. Matildas sister) i would love to hear from you.

Regards,

Kara GUrney

Kiaora Kara, nice to hear from you e whanaunga.
Harriet Amelia Strongman is my grandmother. At one stage she 'ran away' with a Welshman named Ernst Cartwright and had my mother named Esther Caroline Bramley (though my mother had no Bramley blood). My mother married once (tho later divorced) and was known the rest of her life as Esther Tattersal. She was known at Kerikeri Inlet (where she grew up) as 'Essie'. There is another Matilda Strongman (nee Edmonds, daughter of Arthur Edmonds, who married Davis Strongman), 2 generations above Amelias sister Matilda, mother of Robert who you mention above. My mother was raised by her (her great-grandmother). Mum told me she had two brothers raised in a Salvation Army orphanage.
Yes, I have seen the book of Tony Sole and see Roka's photo in there and the Robinson whanau.
I have a little info on Amy tho probably best discussed face to face. We have Strongman whanau meetings 3monthly at the Kerikeri Inlet at Aunty Rose Bennett (nee Strongman)'s place. There is a meeting coming up toward the end of August. I will check on the date it is not quite fixed at the moment. Or you can email our cuzzie, Aunty Rose's daughter the secretary, directly (Wilma Ohlsen McFarlane, olemac@xtra.co.nz). Our doors are open to all whanau descendents all the time! You and your whanau are most welcome, please come if not this time then at another time. We would love to meet you and swap stories, catch up, etc.

I'm looking for information on an Ann (or Annie) Edmonds who married Patrick Joyce in Rangiora in 1877 (after residence of 1 month - whether this is parish or country I don't know). Can anyone help please. She was 28 yrs old 1877 so born abt 1849?

Hi there, my name is Cherie Dickinson and am trying to find out more about my grandfathers (Arnold Rubin Stretch) family. Thanks to my father (Mark Gregory Stretch) I have been able to trace back my line from John Edmonds. This is where I fit in
John Edmonds married to Mary Anne Strickland
Arthur Edmonds married to Erama Kaire
Matilda Edmonds married to Davis Andrew Strongman
Robert strongman married to Ester Robinson
Elizabeth Strongman Married to Charles aka Vivian Stretch
Arnold Rubin Stretch married to Valerie May Thompson
Mark Gregory Stretch married to College Taurau
Cherie Amanda Stretch married to Tim Dickinson
I am very new to this and look forward to hearing from anyone that has any info and also look forward to getting in touch with any family. My grandfather passed away when I was 6 so really do not much about this side of my family. I am also trying to find out more about my Maori heritage.
Warm regards
Cherie
