Ellen Simmons Ewington was my great grandmother. Her daughter Ada was my paternal grandmother. I was born in 1934 - Ellen died in 1940. As a child I remember visiting the house in Gilbert Street Latrobe where she lived. Memories of her are vague. I have a photo of her but I just remember that she was dark and a quiet person. She was definitely Aboriginal (or part Aboriginal) but I would like the true story of how she was part of a family which was not Aboriginal. I have tried to work this out for years. Can anyone help?

I have seen a photograph of Ellen Simmons Ewington and it is undeniable that Ellen Simmons Ewington was indeed Aboriginal,Mary Ann is said to be true blood Aboriginal sister and while there is some debate about how Mary Ann And Ellen came to be Ann Simmons - Keep - Ewington' daughter there is no denying that Ellen is very much Aboriginal. The Melbourne Museum of Victoria; in Carlton sent a report to a new friend and contact of mine confirming that Ann was also Aboriginal, but there are those out there that deny this claim entirely.
