Looking for ENDRULAT of Germany
Simon Rudolph Endrulat, b. 12 Sep 1865 in Germany, came to America in 1889, settling in Iowa, where he married, fathered 7 children, and died in 1917. Simon's d. record gives his father's name as Heinrich. He is known (from old correspondence) to have had a sister, Marie, and brothers, Heinrich and Johannes. The father had d. by the time Simon emigrated; his mother and siblings remained in Germany, where Simon visited them in 1912. His mother, known to the family only as Mrs. Endrulat, d. 22 May 1920 in Germany; age at death gives an approximate b. of 1835.
I have so far been been unable to find the village of origin for Simon; one secondary source indicates Hattsted, Schleswig-Holstein, (a professional researcher told me this is incorrect, the emigration website gives place of b. as Haderslev (now in Denmark). When Simon visited his mother and siblings in Germany, he went to Bielefeld, where his brother Johannes, and sister-in-law, Emma were then living.
Several cousins are sifting through old boxes in attics, but we are stuck--can anyone help?
Thanks in advance,
