Kathy it is my understanding that an Cherokee group of Native Americans that went into Canada
during the "Trail of Tears" going by the surname of "Wolfe" are climing an John Larkins as their
father's lineage. another thing I've been told, and saw onec in print many years ago was that
John Larkins was appointed to be the "cherokee"
nation Tresurere had they named the state Franklin rather then Tenneesee..agin needs to be
examined as early records only shows an John Martin in the vicinity. It is said that Col. James Martin's grandson was taken captive by the
Cherokee Indians during an raid and he was raised
by them. he may or may not be Rev. James Axley and or Lackey later on. It has been 30 years researching them though...of Col. James Martin's family in Somerset Co., Pa. his "aunt" said of him he was an "preacher, teacher and mostly dirfter that didn't amount to much"..and it
sounds very, much like an lifestyle of an Native
American "warrior" to me. this aunt said that he was living with hsi wife's family, or visting them near chillcothe, Ill...this was in part the headquarters of th Shawnee tribe, and in the famous "The Prophet" or Tecumseh..I have spotting lienage on them..the "wolf" Clan is off "Hanging
Maw" the "peace chief" of the Cherokee..perhaps
he was raised by him? If you look in TENN. COUSINS..there is some about him in it...as to the REv. James Axley. He was an teacher at their Captiol.called Chota, along the Hawanisee River,
that area was flooded for Dams in the past. I
have what may be him in Cass Co., Mo as an squatter...and at least two marriage, one to an Cynthia Earnest, and secondly to an Margaret(Polly) Anglen. Could be the name or tow different people also. "America" may of been her
census given name. Could Claire been for the name of "Clark"?..more then Clara. You would have to tell me more about your family and their where abouts also. Hope this help some. They are indeed very hard to find information on, even with the help of the Cherokee Application books at times.
I hope to do some work on them in the future though to help others. Even though John Martin's station was in Kentucky, his name appears in the
earliest formation of Tenneessee. The Anglen family are my hubby's maternal side...she may of been an Native American captive at one time also...he Margt/Polly above her sister.

Kathy, I am a descendant of Phillis Larkins Laster from Franklin County, Tennessee. I have not been able to find her parents through my research. She was supposedly of Indian Descent, but married George Laster a Black man.
