My grandmother was Alice Belk ( Armstrong) from Taihape she had a son Henry Albert Belk before she was married but he died not long after he was born
Hi, Have you noticed in the Midhurst cemetery where Henry Arthur Belk is buried there is an Elizabeth Belk who died 1935 aged 65 years old. There is also a Francis Frederick William Belk who died 1939 aged 81 years. I think these could be the parents of Alice, who was born 1891. They had 8 more children - Albert James,1889, Matthew Lawrence, 1895, Arthur Edward,1898, Frederick William,1900, Richard Duncan,1902, Angelina,1904, Alfred Owen,1907, Frank Ivanhoe, 1909, and Melba 1911.
There is no marriage record on the NZ online records but Ancestry has Francis(or Frank as he is listed on the electoral rolls) birth record on the England &Wales FreeBMD as 1858 St Olave Southwark, London. Maybe they got married before they came out or the record could be in the microfiche marriages kept in the libraries.
I figured this out by finding the death records of Alice and her husband Charles Henry Armstrong in the Taihape cemetery. the dates and ages match those of the Alice born to this couple, also the localities and burial of Henry Albert in the same cemetery.
Could be completely wrong of course but I was just filling in a wet afternoon searching through some records. Hope something of this is useful. Cheers Debbie
