did Raynor Bond Shearer live & die in Masterton?
died in Masterton, lived Wellington and Palmerston North and is buried there. Do you know any of his family or any of his history
so he must have lived in Masterton for a time... who were his parents?
that is what I am trying to find out. He died at the Masterton Hotel. We understand that he was a dairy engineer so probably worked around farms and freezing works repairing machinery. He was at one time married to a Nola Jessie Webber and that is my link. I have found him on the census and found where he is buried but apart from that, this is all we know about him
Hi dscot002. Are you related to Nola Jessie WEBBER?
sorry dscot002, don't know why this was not followed up and wouldn't have seen it if it hadn't been 'bumped' to home page by 3hmn!
You probably have the info required seeing as how your query is 4 years old, but in case not ...
Raynor Bond Shearer (1914-1972) was a son of Arthur James Shearer (1875-1937) & his 3rd wife, Jessie Ellen Robinson (1881-1936)
Arthur was a Practitioner in 'drugless therapy' and was recorded as a tinsmith in Buckle St., Wellington in the 1899-1900 Electoral Roll.
He was a son of James Crear Shearer (1829-1876 born Edinburgh-died Wellington) who emigrated with his family on the Derwent 23 Dec 1868, arriving at Hobson Bay (via Tasmania) and of Jeanie Hardie Turner (1841-1920 born Tasmania-died Feilding)
Arthur James Shearer first married Elizabeth Sophia Price (1870-1907) in 1903. They lived in Hawera & Patea. They had a son, Rex Arthur Shearer (1907-1991) in Berhampore, Wellington. Elizabeth died 15 July 1907 in Berhampore aged 37 and is buried Plot 30M in Karori, Wellington
Arthur James Shearer next married Mary Horn WILSON (1877-1912) in 1908 and had 2 known children, Ian Harold Shearer (1909-1992) & Catherine Jeanie Shearer (1911-1980). They lived in Palmerston North where Arthur was involved with the Baptist Church as organist and music teacher.
Mary died 4 Jan 1912 aged 35 in Berhampore, Wellington and is buried Plot 30M at Karori
Arthur James Shearer next married Jessie Ellen ROBINSON (daughter of James Robinson & Edith Bond Parkinson) in 1913. They also had a son Brian Gilbert Shearer (1922-1944) who was Sergeant NZ4215134 with the Royal NZ Air Force and was shot down over the Pacific during WWII aged 22. His next of kin was a sister, Miss E. J. Shearer of 252 Sutherland Road, Lyall Bay, Wellington
Jessie Ellen died 1 Sep 1936 aged 55 at Wellington Hospital but had been living in Palmerston North. She is buried Plot 572C at Karori, Wellington
Arthur James Shearer died 25 March 1937 aged 62 in Palmerston North and is buried Plot 72, Block 4 at Kelvin Grove
* Raynor's wife, Nola Jessie Webber (1915-) was a daughter of Percival Vivian Webber (1886-1962) from Hawkes Bay & Jessie Elizabeth Auld (1890-1959) from Wellington (they met in Dannevirke) but guessing you know all this side :)
Hi NgaireEdith. Interesting to read the above info. May I ask how you are connected to the Shearer family?
