Hi, I am Clem's son Paul. Vince is my uncle and the above are my Gran & Grandad.
Did you get very fare with your research into the family ?

by em1977 on 2010-01-21 10:40:10

Hi Paul,

Thats would make us great cousins!

Yes I've managed to get quite far now. Had a bit of help on genesreunited and a few other sites that are available. I did stumble across welsh records on rootsweb which even gave me details of the Marriages, Christenings and Deaths.Your dad and yourself where harder to find.I've now started doing more research for the tree as I got sidetracked on another tree.

Yeah my Dad escaped from Trevethin/Pontypool just like your Grandad did! Let me know if you want me to ask my Dad anything - his memory isn't too bad ! Would be great if you could share our side of the tree at some stage. My Dad said he only had one sister though (Beryl who died when he was young)- were there really 2 ?

No they do only have one sister just mum said one name and i remember grandad telling me a different one.Her name was actually Christina Beryl. The picture that i have on here i could've sworn it was grandad but he says its actually roger as he wouldn't have been in wales at the time the picture was taken.

Hi Em, I'm Lindsay gauntlett and my grandfather was Frederick Lesley Gauntlett who was Albert Jeremiah Gauntletts younger brother. I remember my grandfather telling me he was one of 7 brothers and two sisters. I know where Albert used to live and I can remember his sons Freddie and Roger. I believe they did building work / decorating and Roger artexed my parents home. In that photo the likeness to my grandad is amazing but Roger had dark hair but my grandfather was fair. You are my sons third cousin. Your dad my 2nd.

Hi Lindsay,

Its been 6 years since I posted this article and I have got very far on the tree. It is my mothers side who are the Gauntlett. Her father is Vincent, son of Albert and Christina, brother Of Roger and Freddie. Looking through my family tree that makes you and I, 2nd cousins once removed. I also have your parents as Alan and Jean.

It's Christina's family I am having trouble in finding. I know she was one of 22 children. Sadly 11 passed away before 1911.

It's nice to hear from another family member.

Hi my name is Marie. I'm Thomas Gauntlett's granddaughter. Everyone calls my Bamp Glyn. Its lovely to see a picture of my great grandparents, Christina and Albert. To be honest, I always thought that Christina was one of 24 children and her mother adopted two children off the road. It would be interesting to find out Christina's brothers and sisters names and how many there were.

by em1977 on 2014-10-08 18:12:31

Hi Marie,

It's nice to here from you. I remember Glyn and Julie. I'm not sure if it was them that came to visit my grandparents in Norwich when I lived with them. I have a picture somewhere.

I did not know there was 24. Mum said around 24 and I always wondered if any had been adopted as the census records only mentioned 22.I found the births of Margaret, William, John, Edith, Alfred, Sarah, Albert, Thomas, Martha, Ethel and Bertha. I do not know who the others were. With the last name being Jones its a hard family to try and trace. I'm still unsure on Christina's mothers maiden name.

If you want to private email me on here, I can send you any information that I have on the family. You may be able to help me fill in a few blanks.

Hi Emma,

I'm so happy to hear from you. I have been talking to my Nan and Bamp today. My Nan told me that Christians maiden name was Medslar and it's a German name. Somewere down the line that great nan, Christina's family are from Germany, but we think that it could of been her grandparents maybe came over here but we really arn't sure and that great Bamp Albert's father was from west Wales and he was a lay preacher. Sadly though, I cant give you no first names. I wish I could be of more help to you because I have wanted to do the Gauntlett's side of the family for years. Is there a way of finding great nan and bamp Gauntlett's parents names through a marriage certificate of Christina and Albert.

That's help thanks.

Name: Mary Jane Christina Metzler
Baptism: 1 Jun 1860 - Oswestry,Shropshire,England

parents John and Mary. That's Christina's mum and Grandparents.

Mary married Christina's dad William Alfred Jones, 1876 in Corwen.

Alberts parents were Alfred George Gauntlett and Hannah Lewis.

I have the Gauntlett side back to 1738. I am still looking over it as I've missed quite a bit of information off it. I started the tree 10 years ago and got caught up doing others trees so neglected ours for a while. I will look over it again and if there's anything you wish to know please contact me and I will help where I can. There's a few more births and sadly deaths to add to it yet.

by em1977 on 2014-10-09 14:50:15

Sorry Mary Metzlers mum is Jane not Mary.

Hi Emma, so pleased you have so much progress on this as I have been trying to find out Albert and Christina's parents and parents in Law respectively, Are they Albert Gauntlett and Hannah Lewis? Do you have the birth date and birth place of Albert your great great grandfather and my great grandfather ?

by em1977 on 2014-10-11 09:17:20

Sorry I read my notes wrong. I have 10 different trees on the go at the moment.

Albert Jeremiah Gauntlett (27 july 1904-1987)married Christina Evelyn Jones (19 march 1903-24 jan 1994) on 14 march 1925 Pontypool

Alberts parents are Alfred George Gauntlett born 1 march 1875 Pontypool, died 9 april 1943 it says he died in a Mental Hospital, Abergavenny, Wales. He married Mary Jane Aubrey in 1897 Pontypool. She was born 1878 in Bedwelty, Wales and died 1962 Pontypool.

Christinas parents are William Alfred Jones (unsure of his birth and death) He married, Mary Jane Christina Metzler 1876 in Corewen. She was born 1860 in Oswestry,Shropshire,England and I think she died in 1933.
