Looking for grt grt grt grandad John Tuxworth born in Raithby, Lincoln, Lincolnshire.

My great grandad George TUXWORTH emigrated from Lincolnshire to Australia aboard the Salier which sailed from the German port of Bremen on 22nd January 1887.he married Alice Sophia BACKSHELL in Brisbane, Queensland on 24th Feb 1891.I obviously want to learn more about my family but would love to know why he left home as did many others.Poverty I suspect. Th very same reason driving emigrants today.

The National Archives of Australia. Click on search now as a guest, takes you to a basic search screen. Search for either TUXWORTH or George Tuxworth and sift through the information.

Commonwealth War Graves Commission interestingly has 7 records for the TUXWORTH surname, a few of them from Lincolnshire.

George TUXWORTH died 1931 Qld Death Registration No.1931/B15408 son of John & Lucy.

Reginald Wylie TUXWORTH died 1960 Qld Death Reg.No.1960/B39168 son of George TUXWORTH & Alice Sophia BACKSHELL.

Alice Sophia TUXWORTH died 1956 Qld Death Reg.1956/B15173 daughter of John BACKSHELL and Mary Elizabeth CRIPPS.

From The Argus, Melbourne: On 14 February 1922, at her residence, Nagambie, Sarah Tuxworth widow of the late George Tuxworth, and late of Armadale and East Malvern; mother of Edwin Tuxworth (of Wollongong NSW), Ellen Tuxworth of Nagambie, Lena Carson of Nagambie, George Bacon Tuxworth of Wollongong NSW, Lottie Machin of Queenstown, Tasmania. Aged 86, a colonist of 64 years' standing.

There is also a sad announcement in 1889 of the burial of their daughter, Fanny.
