I have a James Stoke Hare/Hares/Hyars(as was on wifes death cert) born Lancashire c 1795. His daughter Margaret b.1819, wife Elizabeth ?Sikes.
He may have been in the army/British East India Co.
Margaret married Captain Francis Bygrove Barnes and they came to Australia, my ggggparents. The Hares seem to be quite hard to find.

I am trying to trace my mother's family who were from County Durham, Yorkshire. My grandmother's maiden name was HARE. Her father, Arthur was a pharmacist, and he had two brothers, Jack and Frank, who were both doctors. All three qualified somewhere in Yorkshire in the late 1870's. Arthur came to South Africa at some stage and met and married my great-grandmother who had come from England to visit friends here. My grandmother was born in the then Zululand in 1902. If you are still researching this, perhaps you have come across this branch of the HARE family.
