Looking for JAMES HALL migrated to INDIA 1700s. Known son JAMES EDWARD HALL b1852 Madras

Query by lindajocelynhall

we are researching the HALL family possibly from Ireland/UK 1600-1700s, arriving into India around mid to late 1700s. JAMES HALL had a son JAMES EDWARD HALL b 1852 in Madras. We know JAMES EDWARD HALL had two known sons JAMES GERALD & ARCHIBALD FITZMAURICE. We have been unable to find any further information about when the HALL family arrived into India and their names. Specifically we are looking for the parents of JAMES HALL and any information anyone has. Also if possible any further names for parents/siblings.

Once we have found this information we are happy to post the HALL/HOGG family tree publicly for anyone wanting to know where they came from as we have most of the information from JAMES GERALD HALL onwards.

Any information would be gratefully accepted.

In Women of the Raj (Margaret Macmillan, Thames & Hudson, 1988, ISBN 0-500-27898-9), there is a reference to a James Hall, barrister in Madras in the late 18th century.

Hall apparently served at one time in the military service of the Nizam of Hyderabad. The focus in the brief reference is actually on his wife, described as a dashing, Spanish-born lady who commanded a company of amazons charged with protecting the Nizam's seraglio(see Chapter 12).

thank you for your time taken to respond, i shall look this up, we do know the family served in the military - the wife certainly sounds interesting to say the least....
