Welcome shazz63.

You need to include a few given names and the approximate year your MCIVER family lived in Richmond.

Good luck.

Looking for children from George Albert

George and Valerie's son Glen died 1954 in Seaford, Victoria, aged 11 years.
George's death certificate for 1953 should name his other children. If you have the time you could search Trove for George's death notice. With a bit of luck it may include the names of his children.

that gives glen's birth year as 1942. My father is a brother born in '43.
George died 1953 in richmond. I certainly will get copy of his death certificate if it includes that kind of info. thanks

actually have done the recalculation. 1943 is the same year that Glen and my father were born so not sure where this info fits. thanks anyways

Glen MCIVER died 20 January 1954 and is buried in the Coburg Cemetery.

If Glen was older than 11 years and and 01 month when he died he would have been born in 1941. Taking a persons age from year of death does not always give an accurate year of birth. It can be one year each way.

Cheers.

The Death of Glen McIver

GIRL, 15, GIVES LIFE
TO RESCUE BOY!
A 15- YEAR - OLD play-leader gave her life in rescue efforts, and two young children were drowned at Seaford yesterday afternoon.
They died when a freak wave whipped up by a sudden wind-change washed them off a sandbank 15 yards from shore.
Thirty other children had narrow escapes and two were taken to Frankston Community
Hospital suffering from exposure and shock.
The victims were members of a party of 50 children, mainly from Richmond, and five play leaders from the National Fitness Council.
They were having a day at the beach as part of their holiday sports program.
Those drowned were:
JUDITH COMBER, 15, play - leader, of Glenhuntly rd, Elwood.
GEOFFREY WEBB, 7,of Hunter st., Richmond;
and
GLEN MCIVER, 10, of Green st., Richmond.
Admitted to Frankston Community Hospital:
JOAN FREETH. 8. of
Mary st., Richmond; and
PAULINE WILLCOCKS, 10, of Coppin st., Richmond.
Joan Treeth was later discharged and taken home.
Judith Comber drowned after heroically saving the lives of at least two children.
On the point of exhaustion, she turned back into the water to rescue a third child.
He struggled and dragged her under the water, and she was drowned before other
rescuers could help her.
"Unawares"
The tragedy occurred about half a mile on the Frankston side of the Seaford pier.
Eye-witnesses said that the wind blew up so suddenly that the children were caught unawares by the freak wave.
Judith Comber, who was in the water with the children, went to the aid of a young boy who was struggling in the choppy water.
The four other playleaders dived in to aid the youngsters.
Two of the play-leaders, Charles Fisher, 24, school teacher, of Frankston, and Keith Watson,16, a student at Scotch College, last night told of the tragedy.
"Terrifying"
Keith Watson said: "All the children seemed to be panicking, and took no notice of us when we tried to tell them to float.
"There were about 30 of the children in the water at the time, and it was hard to sort out who needed help most.
Keith said: "We found Glen McIver floating about 30 yards away.
"It all happened in about half an hour. It was the most terrifying half-hour of my life."
Charles Fisher, 24, school teacher, of Frankston, raced into the water and rescued some of the children.
Keith Watson, 16, a play-leader, and student of Scotch College. He helped rescue the children

Hi shazz63
I discovered these posts almost by accident. Some years ago I did some research on the tragic drowning of three children at Seaford in 1954, using the event as the basis of the storyline for a play called Only Children. (It does not use real names) My mother was one of the play leaders on the beach picnic and I used her recollections of the event to create the story. After the event she visited Glen's aunt, with whom he had been living apparently. However, that Is all I know about him, apart from some minor details in police statements.

Hi GeeMarls
thank you for this information.Glen would have been living with his aunt as his mother(my grandmother)left the family when he was 1 year old, his dad died the year before he did. All my research says the family lived in Green st for several generations. He had two maiden aunts and 2 married ones. Again, thank you
