You probably know more about the Rydquists as a family than I do; however I do know that the first Rydquist to arrive in Australia was Edwin Rydquist he was Swedish and a captain of the 150 ton Swedish Schooner, Alma, he sailed into Melbourne with six passengers from Gothenburg. A week later, with no captain and not having any success picking up a charter, the Alma was up for sale including all it's cargo from Sweden. It was a beautiful vessel with cabins enough for twelve passengers. J.B.Were, Kent & Co. of Lonsdale St., were the ones handling the sale. Anyway Edwin did not return to Sweden but got himself a miners right and went to California Gully to try his luck on the goldfields.
I actually don't know a whole lot. Rydquist is my husbands family name. And all he knows is that they came from Sweden. Thank you for your info I will defiantly pass it onto my hubby.
