Looking for MORTIMER of Buckinghamshire, England.

Query by Jagged

I am researching the ancestors of William Hamor MORTIMER, born in 1863 in Nether Winchendon, Buckinghamshire, England.
His parents were Robert and Elizabeth MORTIMER (nee HALL) from Twyford, Buckinghamshire, England

William married Fanny BACKSHALL in 1884 in Ardingley, Sussex.
William 22, Fanny 30 and Florence (under 12 months) arrived in Sydney Australia from Plymouth aboard the SS Chimborazo on the 5th July 1885.
They had market gardens at Botany, Sydney.
William and Fanny had 5 children - Florence, Alice, William, Edith and Mary.

After Fanny died in 1907, William married Jessica Agnes AUSTEN and made their home in Burrawang NSW.
William and Jessie had 5 children - Jean, Jim, Joseph, Elsie and Margaret.

He died in 1947.

Any information, whether ancestor or descendant, would be appreciated.

My ancestors were the Roads/Rhoades from Buckinghamshire and I've known about this incredibly huge family tree online for some years. It also covers a one-Place-Study of Waddesdon, Grendon Underwood and Wotton Underwood.

The Roads Family of Buckinghamshire. It happens to list 41 Mortimer's. You may just find a connection when more resesarch is done on your tree. If you look down the list there is a Robert Mortimer born 1839 but with no spouse or children noted.

Best wishes,
Alison from QLD.

Hello emeraldsprings
Mary Albina is the youngest child in the photo, and Alice Louisa is standing between her parents. Alice is my grandmother.

I also had 1944 as the year that William died until his daughter Jean (from his second family and now deceased)said that he was 83 when he died. I found a record in the NSW BDM of William Mortimer (parents Robert and Elizabeth) dying in 1947 in the Bowral district, which is not far from Burrawang. He may have died in hospital there. If he was born in late December 1863 this would make him 83 at death, just short of his 84th birthday. Hence why I now have Dec 17 1947.

Thanks for your information
Janice

You're welcome Janice. Also think about registering as a new user of Rootschat. Goto their Australian boards first, they may help fill in some gaps for your tree.

And your lovely photograph could be restored at their boards also.

Cheers.
