The marriage certificate for Albert and Mary should tell you Albert's parents names.

I've looked at the S.A. births but there is no Albert GILES recorded in 1870.
His birth may not have been registered.

Thankyou I've looked up births in both South Australia and Victoria, on the admission records from the mental hospital it states his age as 48 so he might have been born 71 or 72 and it has Cherry Gardens South Australia as his birthplace, you could be right that he may not have been registered, will have to get his marriage cert and hope his parents are on there, he had to come from somewhere. Thankyou

Well I brought his marriage cert and what a waste....no parents on there back to square one. Don't really know what to do next.

Hi DonnaC.

I liked your last comment best.

Albert's mother was Elizabeth Jane MAGOR.

I'm putting some details together on Albert's family for you. I have found seven children for George and Elizabeth, but no Albert. I'm still searching the marriages and deaths for Albert's parents and siblings.

Can you have another look at Albert's marriage certificate and tell me his age and birth place recorded on the certificate. May be of some help.

Hi tonkin,
So what you are saying is that Mary Magor's name was really Elizabeth Jane?
On the cert it has that he was born in Cherry Gardens SA and was 27 at the time of his marriage on 13 June 1900.
Thankyou so much for your help, slowly pulling this brick wall down

I will be searching the records again tomorrow for more details. The only MAGOR married and having children to George GILES in South Australia is Elizabeth Jane MAGOR. Elizabeth died in 1886 so Albert would have been about twelve years old. I did not find a second marriage for George so it's possible someone assisted George with the children.

There were a few Mary MAGORs in South Australia and I think one of them may have been Elizabeth's sister. The one I'm looking at is Mary MAGOR married to John WOON. They also had a son named Albert in 1874, but he died in 1878 aged four years. Could be this Mary looked after Albert when his mother Elizabeth died, hence the name Mary appearing on his marriage certificate. But I could be wrong.

It's not always easy.

You are so right...it is not always easy, I have looked every where for Mary Magor, can't find a trace of her, have just got my computer back so going to start looking again, I keep staring at Albert's photo wishing he could tell me, I wonder if I looked up education records for back then (if that is possible) at Brownhill Creek school if I can get some info on Alberts kids but then that doesn't really help with finding info on his parents, this brick wall is pretty solid I think.
Thanks for your help

Hi, was wondering if you have found anything else, I have been looking at a Lucy Jane Giles who was the Daughter Of George Giles and Elizabeth Jane nee Magor, she had a couple of illegitimate childern, one with the name of Ada Alexandra Maude Mary and Albert Named a couple of his daughters Ada and Alexandra. she would have been about 15 when he was born, but still can't find any birth for him. Have sent away for George Giles death cert hoping it might have his children on it.
Might just have to give this branch up as impossible to find.

Thankyou, I have searched on Trove and have never found these two death notices. It is interesting to note that Albert wasn't mentioned on Grace's death notice at the time of her death he was in Parkside Hospital.
