Looking for parents of Marietta Walden.

Query by owyheegal

She was born about 1822 in Connecticut and married William Moss on 3 Oct 1847 in Waterbury, Connecticut, according to the Barbour Collection, Waterbury Vital Records. These records say she was from Norwich, Connecticut. They were shown in Waterbury on the 1850 census and living with them was an Oscor Walden, 4 years younger than Marietta, and probably her brother. I have not been able to get any further info on him either. This has been a 30 year journey so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, this is the same family in Iowa. In 1850 William Edwin and Marietta had been married for 3 years and had no children, which is rather unusual. Then in 1860 they have a 10 year old son, C H Moss. This is my great grandfather, Charles Henry Moss. William remarried in 1861 in Iowa so Marietta is believed to have died after July 1860 (date of census) and sometime in 1861. Can't find a death for her. Don't have an exact date for William's marriage to Grace Pearl Stacey. William moved on to Missouri and then Kansas where he spent the rest of his life. Since Marietta had no children in the first 3 years of marriage and then had no other children, it's questionable if Charles Henry was her child. We're thinking she maybe couldn't have children and she did die fairly young. The reason we question Charles Henry's birth is because in records after 1860 he is shown as being born anywhere between 1847 and 1856. The only thing constant is he was born on 4 July. To further complicate things I was told several years ago by 2 sisters in Kansas (granddaughters of Charles Henry) that Charles wasn't the biological son of William. They said their father had told them that Charles's parents were killed in a horse and buggy accident in Connecticut when he was very young and he went to live with an aunt and uncle. I don't believe William was his uncle and I don't know about Marietta since I don't know anything about her family. I'm also not taking the story as gospel but it is interesting and could maybe be right. I haven't had any luck in following up on Oscar Walden either but he was still with them in 1860. I hope this isn't all too confusing and I really want to thank you for responding to my inquiry. Pat
