Looking for possible Grigsby family that moved to New Zealand

Query by anjean

Hi all
I am researching my paternal great grandmother Ellen Grigsby of Marden, Kent in England. We think it was her one of her relatives that went to New Zealand. We have lots of photos of the New Zealand crowd. We know thataround early 1900s some relatives emigrated to Zew Zealand. My great grand parents were going to go but decided to stay here at the last minute. The realtives that went starting life there as miners. then later on became sheep farmers and had a sheep station somewhere in New zealand. We know that the cousin's of my Nan was name Ju - Jude or Julia. She married a man by the Name of bob.
They used to send a whole lamb and tinned fruit and other non persihable goods to my Nan's sister to be shared out amoungst the family. That was in the 1960's early 70's.
I hope somebody might be able to help to find these people.
Many thanks

I only fornd out this last night while I was scouting around in Ancestry.co.uk but I have yet to find Ju or Jude I think it may even more likley to be Julia who was with a Bob.

the GRIGSBY FAMILY tree has photos of George GRIGSBY & his wife Frances nee HISTED and also one of John GRISBY, his wife Elizabeth nee CARROLL & baby Ashley GRIGSBY and says the following:

George Grigsby was born 1846 in Marden, Maidstone, Kent England and died 1 September 1937 in Morrinsville NZ.
He married Frances HISTED about 1866 in England.

His father (George) was a labourer (as stated on Georges' death certificate).
It is said that George had a brother who sailed to Canada, but there is no evidence to support this.

George left England on the 20th February 1874, on the ship Rooparell, which took 100 days to reach Auckland, New Zealand with his wife and three young children aged five, three and nine months.

When they arrived, they were amongst the first Waikato pioneers.
They took packhorses across rough country terrain to Hamilton.
This took them three days and they first resided in a tent.

George and his young family settled in Hamilton for a while before moving onto Ohaupo, then Scotchman's Valley. He was the first to break in land at Tauwhare, where they lived for 16 years.

The last 20 years of his life was spent in Morrinsville.
George died at his home at the age of 91.

According to the shipping summaries, Frances was two years older than George.

A postcard was received from a J.More, dated December 29th 1903.
This person refers to "an addition to the old Church".
The postcard is St Michael and All Angels Church, Marden, where Georges' father was Baptised.

"Our" George was also baptised in this Church. George and Frances were married at the East Farleigh Church, which lies two and a half miles to the West of Maidstone.

In the 1871 census George and Frances were living at East Hatt Lane, Boughton Monchelsea, Kent- approx. six miles from Marden.
